Cotton Bud Dandelion Craft
Make beautiful dandelion paintings simply by dipping cotton buds in paint to create little ‘seed prints’.
It’s an easy spring craft that young children can enjoy. You can even print some floating dandelion seeds so that they look like they’re blowing off in wind.[wrap]
Summary
Time: 10 minutes
Age: Little kids to Big kids
Difficulty: Easy peasy
You will need:
- Blue paper or card (you can use other colours too)
- Paints – white, green, black and yellow
- Paint brush
- Cotton buds
Step 1: Paint on the stalks and leaves
Using your paintbrush and some green paint, paint on some long dandelion stalks.
You can add some blades of grass too if you want.
Then add on some leaves coming off the stems.
Step 2: Add the dandelion centres
Paint on black lines at the top of the stems for the dandelion centres.
If you want, you can also paint some tiny yellow dots on top of the black line to make them look more realistic.
Step 3: Make your cotton bud ‘paint brush’
Take 5 or 6 cotton buds and tape them together, or tie them together using an elastic band.
Now you have a bundle of cotton buds that you can print with.
Step 4: Start printing the dandelion seeds
Dip your tied cotton buds into white paint. Press them down and lift straight up off the paper to avoid smudging.
Make these prints all the way round the dandelion centre.
As an added touch, you can pick a dandelion which has some seeds blowing off in the wind.
To do this you still print all the way around the centre but you then leave a small gap at the top.
Step 5: Print some fly-away seeds
Take a single cotton bud and print a little line of dots floating away from your dandelion.
That way you can make it look like some dandelion seeds are blowing off in the breeze.
