NuFACE vs. MyoLift: Which Microcurrent Machine is Best? image

Despite being quite disciplined with my skincare routine throughout the years, I recently noticed fine lines starting to emerge on my forehead and under-eyes.

This led me down the path of looking for more effective solutions besides the usual creams. And I soon stumbled across microcurrent devices.

I was intrigued by the idea that these little machines let you do your own anti-aging facials at home! But the confusing part was that there were so many different options and brands of microcurrent machines that it was hard to pick one.

If you’re in the same boat, I’m going to help you make the process a little easier by reviewing 2 popular microcurrent devices in the market at the moment: NuFACE and MyoLift.

Both are based on the same microcurrent technology, but have a few key differences that can impact which is better for you. For example, while NuFACE is the more well-known brand, MyoLift’s device has salon-grade microcurrent strength.

In this review, I’ll be giving you all the information you need on these 2 products — everything from price, effectiveness, and what others are saying about them. By the end of it, you’ll be able to make an informed choice on which is better for you.

Microcurrent machines

What are microcurrent machines?

Microcurrent machines are facial toning devices that help to lift the skin and reduce signs of aging using low-voltage electric currents.

They work by stimulating your facial muscles and increasing collagen synthesis in the skin. These currents are delivered at very micro levels so that you’ll hardly feel anything when using them. [1, 3]

Do microcurrent devices really work?

Microcurrent machines work for many people in helping to reduce wrinkles, tauten facial muscles, and smoothen fine lines on the face and neck.

Research has shown that 70% of patients were satisfied with the effects of 30 sessions of microcurrent treatment, particularly with wrinkle reduction in the forehead area. And studies have also found that it can stimulate collagen synthesis. [2, 3]

Are microcurrent devices safe?

Microcurrent devices are considered safe for most users. The technology has actually been around for a long time, and was initially used as a form of physical therapy for facial paralysis and chronic wound treatment. However, people with pacemakers, epilepsy or pregnant women are not recommended to use them. [1]

They are also completely painless when used with the accompanying gel. Even at the highest intensity, you might only experience some tingling. There is no zapping, popping, or shooting current.

NuFACE vs Myolift which microcurrent device is better

NuFACE Trinity vs. MyoLift, what’s the difference?

The NuFACE Trinity is a popular microcurrent facial toning device with FDA clearance. As a compact device that can be held with one hand, it’s a convenient alternative for those who want to achieve spa-like results at home. It’s also very versatile as it comes with different attachments to use on larger areas of the face and neck muscles or on more delicate areas (like eyes and lips) to improve facial contour and tone.

The 7E MyoLift Mini microcurrent machine performs the same function as the NuFACE Trinity intending to provide visible anti-aging and skin-toning results. As a device that’s suited for both salon and home use, the current strength is higher than the NuFACE Trinity. However, the way you move the probes may require more practice to be used effectively.

  • The bigger version called NuBODY is for body-sculpting.

If you’re unsure which one to choose, take a look at our article: NuFACE Trinity vs. NuFACE Mini where we look at the key differences between devices.

How Does NuFACE Trinity Work?

The NuFACE Trinity works by sending low-strength electrical waves through your skin. Since your skin itself does not conduct electricity, you have to apply a water-based gel before use.

How to use NuFACE Trinity

  1. Prepare your skin. Clean your face with an oil-free cleanser.
  2. Apply the NuFACE Primer to your target area.
  3. Treat sections of your face by moving the silver ball area of the device over the skin in smooth motions.
  4. You will hear a beep every 5 seconds. This indicates when to move to the next area.
  5. It will automatically turn off after 20 minutes of use.

For beginners, adjust the intensity level to the lowest setting and gradually work your way up based on your comfort levels.

The higher the number of blue lights, the higher the intensity.

Up to 20% off: NuFACE Trinity and ELE attachment

How often should you use NuFACE, and for how long?

NuFACE recommends using it once daily for 5-20 minutes per treatment. In the first 60 days, you can use NuFACE 5 times per week. After 60 days, you can use it 2-3 times per week for maintenance.

Once you switch to the maintenance phase, you can use the NuFACE device until you get the desired results. This may vary depending on the elasticity of your skin and the depth of the fine lines.

Results from one treatment will last 1-3 days.

Is the NuFACE Trinity painful to use?

NuFACE Trinity is not a painful treatment. Most women who use it report that they barely feel anything at all.

If any slight static feeling is experienced, it’s usually due to not enough gel being applied to the skin.

The NuFACE currents are also very low-strength. So at most, you will experience some mild tingling.

How long does it take to see results from NuFACE Trinity?

The results vary, but many have reported seeing immediate lifting of the skin. Best results are seen from consistent use though. NuFACE suggests using it daily for 60 days before you can switch to maintenance therapy.

Alternatives to the NuFACE Trinity

Although NuFACE is one of the most popular microcurrent devices on the market, there are alternatives to the NuFACE Trinity such as NuSkin, MyoLift, Ziip, Foreo and their own more portable NuFACE Mini.

NuFACE Trinity Pros and Cons

Here’s a summary of the pros and cons of the NuFACE Trinity based on the device’s features and what other reviewers are saying about it:

NuFACE Trinity Pros and Cons

Customer Reviews of NuFACE Trinity

NuFACE Trinity is a very popular product in beauty circles with a strong average score of 4.32 out of 5 stars from 966 reviews across 3 third-party platforms (Amazon, Sephora, and Influenster).

Many users had good things to say about the NuFACE Trinity, and here were some recurring comments about its best effects:

  • Reduced fine lines well
  • Made skin appear more taut
  • Facial features appeared more toned
  • Helped to make eyes look more fresh and awake
  • Many saw quick results from only using it 5 minutes a day
  • Painless
  • User-friendly design

Most people felt that the NuFACE did work as promised as an anti-aging product (some even tried it with their male partners!)

While it isn’t a miracle device, people did see improvements in terms of reducing fine lines and lifting areas of the skin that have started to sag.

While there were some that saw immediate effects, it is a device that takes commitment if you want to see results. NuFACE suggests at least using it for 5 days/week for 60 days before reducing to maintenance mode (2-3 days per week).

Several users suggested doing the treatment while in bed and watching TV so that it becomes less of a chore.

Of the negative reviews we noted, most of them were because of faults with certain parts of the units. I feel that this is to be expected as part of manufacturing defects. And this is why it’s good that NuFACE has a 1-year warranty that should help cover these issues.

A small number of people also felt that it wasn’t effective at reducing signs of aging. But several of these reviewers had only used it for a week or so before making their judgment. So part of the reason may have been that they needed to continue the treatment for a little longer.

Is the NuFACE Trinity worth it?

Looking at the many positive reviews on third-party websites and my own experience with NuFACE, I would say the NuFACE Trinity is worth it because of the visible results seen. Many reviewers found that it helped to lift their skin and make them look younger and refreshed. My own face felt slightly more toned and taut after using it for 30 days.

While the upfront cost seems pricey, bear in mind that a facial at a salon can cost $100-300 per session. So the NuFACE Trinity actually works out to be a much more cost-effective solution in the long run. Plus, it’s a lot more convenient as you can do your own sessions from the comfort of your home.

However, remember you’ll need to be consistent with it to see results. So be prepared to be committed to using it at least 5 days a week at the start.

Myolift Mini Review

MyoLift Review

MyoLift Founder

Pooja Johari started 7E Wellness in 2008 and used her Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering to create MyoLift.

As someone who successfully ran her own spa, she knew what her clients needed. Though she initially designed it for salon professionals, the smaller versions are suited for home use as well. It is wildly popular because it comes with various wavelengths and functions like “Erase” to reduce finer marionette lines on the face.

What is the 7e MyoLift Mini?

The 7e MyoLift Mini is a facial toning device that uses microcurrent technology. It has two handheld prongs that pass a low-voltage current through the skin to provide lifting and sculpting effects. It’s more geared towards professional use at salons. But as a small, portable unit, it can easily be used at home too.

What are the benefits of MyoLift?

Here’s a quick look at some of the key benefits of the 7e MyoLift Mini:

  • It’s a salon-grade facial toning device
  • Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and lifts sagging skin by toning facial muscles
  • It gives the appearance of more contoured facial features
  • Improves blood circulation for healthy skin
  • Increases skin elasticity by increasing collagen production in cells.
  • Non-invasive beauty treatment
  • Relatively small device

The main benefit of the 7e MyoLift Mini is that you’re getting a salon-grade device that has the optimal microcurrent strength for the best results. And even though it’s a professional device, it’s compact enough for home spaces.

You can easily find instructional videos online demonstrating how to perform the special Pinch-and-Hold Technique using the two probes.

How does MyoLift work?

The 7e MyoLift Mini works by delivering True Microcurrent™ via a Pinch-and-Hold Technique to the facial muscles — where you lightly “pinch” the facial muscles between the double probes and direct the current into the muscle more efficiently.

There are different modes that you can use, and the current strength is generally between 175-400 microamps. It helps to stimulate your muscles and skin cells to achieve wrinkle-reducing and lifting effects.

How to use MyoLift?

  1. Cleanse and dry your face
  2. Apply conductive gel to the area that you want to work on
  3. Switch on the device and press the run button
  4. Press the educate button (for lifting) or the erase button (for fine lines) and glide the probes away from each other in opposite directions
  5. Do this three times for lighter lines keeping the probes spread apart from each other

How often should you use it, and for how long?

It is recommended to use the MyoLift 1-2 times a week for either 4-6 or 10-12 weeks. Or you can keep using it until you achieve the desired results. After that, maintenance is advised once or twice a month.

Each treatment lasts about 45 minutes to an hour for your initial treatment period, and after that, maintenance treatments last 30 minutes.

Is MyoLift painful to use?

No. Apart from a bit of tingling, you shouldn’t feel any pain at all while using MyoLift.

How long does it take to see results from MyoLift?

Since these are longer treatment sessions, several users report that they’ve been able to see results after one treatment.

What other MyoLift products are there?

There’s MyoLift™ Mini and MyoLift™ QT for handheld microcurrent devices. Both have the same intensity up to 400 microamps.

MyoLift Mini vs MyoLift QT

The difference between the MyoLift Mini and the MyoLift QT are the probes. In the QT device, instead of two probes, there’s a single handheld device with two ball probes. In addition, it comes with Smart Technology which is app-based.

The MyoLift Mini is a standalone device that relies on you to apply the Pinch-and-Hold Technique well. While the QT device requires the app for use, you can use a slide and glide technique similar to the NuFACE.

7e MyoLift Mini reviews from customers

As a relatively new entrant to microcurrent therapy, the 7e MyoLift Mini has been slowly gaining popularity. Users have given it 4.1 out of 5 stars based on 95 reviews across 2 third-party websites.

Overall, most users were happy with these aspects of the 7e MyoLift Mini:

  • Salon-grade microcurrent machine
  • Some felt it was superior to other microcurrent products
  • It helped to lift and tone the skin (even for areas like hooded eyelids)
  • Effective at erasing fine lines
  • Made skin feel refreshed after use
  • Compact design makes it good for home use
  • While each session is long, you don’t have to do them as many times each week
  • The video tutorials made it easy to learn how to do the proper Pinch-and-Hold Technique
  • Some who were professional beauticians said they really liked this product (after testing many devices over the span of their careers). A few even recommend their clients buy their own unit to use at home.

Unfortunately, some reviewers said that it didn’t work for them. These were a minority, and all microcurrent devices have some customers who feel it hasn’t made a difference.

The effects on the skin from microcurrent devices are subtle, but there is generally a noticeable tautening and lifting of the skin after regular use.

One of the main drawbacks is that some people found the device difficult to use at the beginning (because of the Pinch-and-Hold Technique). However, with some practice, they reported seeing good results.

There were a few comments about how the design looks a little outdated, but this is more of a personal opinion. And users were happy to continue using it as long as it worked.

Does the 7e MyoLift Mini work?

The 7e MyoLift Mini worked for the majority of reviewers. But as a product that’s still growing its user-base, the total number of reviews was still quite low (less than 100). So it’s definitely a product to continue to watch in the coming years.

The biggest pro of the MyoLift Mini is that it’s a salon-grade product with good microcurrent strength at 175-400 microamps. There were a few users that are beauticians themselves who said they use it in their salon.

Another benefit is that it’s a considerably cheaper alternative to other similar devices.

While it’s relatively easy to use, it does require some skill and practice to master the recommended Pinch-and-Hold Technique to get the optimal results.

Which is better, NuFACE Trinity or 7e MyoLift Mini?

The NuFACE is a little easier to use and more compact. It only has one attachment and can be used single-handedly. As a salon-grade device, the 7e MyoLift Mini may take a little longer to learn to use because of the Pinch-and-Hold Techniques with its double probes. But its current strength goes up to 400 microamps (NuFACE Trinity’s maximum is 335 microamps) — so it’s ideal for those that want a little more power from their devices.

That said, both NuFACE and MyoLift are popular home-use microcurrent devices with similar microcurrent strengths and good reviews online.

Ease of use

NuFACE is ideal for anyone who may travel frequently or just wants something simpler to use. The 7e MyoLift Mini takes longer to learn at the start, but some felt that it’s actually quite easy to operate once you get used to it. It’s also popular with beauticians and salon professionals.

Time commitment

In terms of time commitment, both do require you to dedicate some time to use it. But the way they fit in your schedule is slightly different.

NuFACE requires more consistent use (5 times a week at the start), but each session is shorter (5-20 minutes). On the other hand, each MyoLift session is longer (45 minutes), but you don’t have to use it as often each week (1-2 times a week).

Price comparison

In terms of pricing, the 7e MyoLift Mini is cheaper than the NuFACE Trinity. But given the convenience and compactness of the NuFACE, you might feel that it’s worth spending that little extra on it.

Which microcurrent device is right for you, NuFACE or MyoLift Mini?

Overall, NuFACE seems like a better choice for those just starting out with microcurrent devices as it’s easier to use. But if you’re a seasoned user of such devices or want slightly stronger microcurrent strength, then MyoLift may be a better option for you.

That said, both devices are great choices. And whichever device you end up with, the key is to stay consistent to see a more lifted and sculpted you!

FAQs: NuFACE Trinity and MyoLift

Do NuFACE and MyoLift work without the gel?

No. Your skin is a poor conductor of electricity and you can feel some slight pain if these microcurrent devices are used without a conductive gel.

Both NuFACE and MyoLift come with their own forms of conductive gels when you purchase their device.

Is there a difference between the at-home versus salon devices?

Yes there is a difference as Salon devices have different wavelengths and currents higher than 400 microamps. A cosmetologist can tailor the strength based on your skin with professional devices. Home devices generally have a lower microcurrent voltage and so may take longer per treatment.

Should you use NuFACE and MyoLift in the morning or evening?

They can be used in the morning or at night as long as you use them only once per 24 hours. As the lift can sometimes be seen straight away, some users recommend using it in the morning.

Can NuFACE devices be used with skincare products?

Yes, the NuFACE device works synergistically with many skincare lines. However, you must avoid oil-based skincare products as oil prohibits the optimal delivery of microcurrents. For better results, apply your favorite serum before applying the NuFACE Primer.

Do NuFACE and MyoLift help with under-eye bags?

Yes, they can help reduce dark circles and under-eye bags.

Can I use microcurrent devices if I’ve had Botox or Juvederm?

Yes, but it’s recommended to wait a few weeks (at least 2) after a Botox or Juvederm treatment before starting a microcurrent treatment. This is because the microcurrent could unintentionally move the Botox to another muscle nearby if used within 24 hours of an injection. Always consult a doctor before combining Boxox or Juvederm with microcurrent treatments. [4

What training and support are available for NuFACE and MyoLift?

There is a NuFACE app with videos on how to use the device. Plus, there are many video tutorials on YouTube as well.

MyoLift provides monthly online webinars since it does require some practice. They also have a members Facebook page to teach you the technique. Here they share training events, videos, and tips as well.

If you’re unsure which one to choose, take a look at our article: NuFACE Trinity vs. NuFACE Mini where we look at the key differences between devices.

NuFACE Trinity review

20% off: NuFACE Trinity
