You can make your toilet roll cat in any colour or style you like. We know they’ll be the coolest cats in town.
Summary:
Time: 10 minutes
Age: Little kids to Big kids
Difficulty: Easy peasy
You will need:
- Toilet rolls
- Acrylic paints
- Paintbrushes
- Pipe cleaners
- Wool – grey or black
- Googly eyes
- Tiny pom poms – black
- Glue
- Scissors
Step 1: Fold the top of your toilet roll
Fold the top of one side of your tube into the centre. Then do the same at the other side.
You end up with a nice curved edge with two sticking up corners that look like ears.
It should stay put when folded down, but if you need to you can glue one side on top of the other.
Step 2: Choose how tall your cat will be
You can leave the tube as it is to make a nice tall cat.
Or cut off some of the bottom of the tube to make medium sized cats and little kittens.
Step 3: Paint your tube
Paint your tube all over. We used acrylic paint, which covers the cardboard in a thick coat.
Step 4: Add some details
Paint on any stripes or patches of colour on your cat and paint two pink triangle for the inner ears.
Step 5: Add some cat’s eyes
Glue on two google eyes.
If you don’t have any you can cut some white card into small circles and stick them on.
Then paint a black dot in the centre.
Or simply paint on your cat’s eyes.
Step 6: Add the whiskers
Cut three small lengths of wool and glue them on to make the cat’s whiskers.
Again, if you prefer you can just paint on the whiskers instead.
Step 7: Add the nose and mouth
Glue a teeny tiny pom pom over the whiskers for the nose. A button would work well too.
Then paint on a nice smile or draw it on with a black Sharpie pen.
Step 8: Add a tail
Make a small hole at the back of your tube and poke a pipe cleaner through.
Bend the end of the pipe cleaner on the inside of the tube down a little, to hold it in place.
Then curl the other end of your pipe cleaner to make your cat’s tail.
Why not make a whole family of cats – each with his own cool cat style?
