Enjoy making these fun and beautiful little boats, made out of egg box cartons and a few other bits and pieces. A fun kids craft, children will love putting their little toys in it and setting sail on imaginary voyages across choppy seas.
What you need:
- Egg boxes
- Scissors
- Card or paper
- Wooden skewers
- Plasticine
- Sellotape
- Acrylic paints
- Paint brushes
Step 1: Paint your boats
Cut off the bottom half of the egg box and trim the edges to make it nice and neat. Then paint it inside and out. Choose whatever colours you like. You might even like to paint on stripes or spots. We used acrylic paint for our boats for the best result.
Step 2: Make the sails
Cut out two triangles from a piece of stiff paper or card. Make a thin fold along the straight edge of your triangle and place your wooden skewer along it. Fix it in place with a bit of sellotape at the back.
Step 3: Make some pretty bunting
Cut a length of wool or string. Fold a piece of paper and along the folded edge cut out a number of little triangles. Pop the folded edge of the triangles on the wool and then glue the triangles together.
Step 4: Put it all together
To assemble your boat, pop the wooden skewer with your sail on it through the hole in one of the sticking up parts of your egg box. Secure it by adding a blob of Plasticine underneath. Tie one end of your bunting to the top of the sail and tape the other end to the back of your boat.
