Summary
Time: 10 mins
Age: Little kids to big kids
Difficulty: Easy peasy
You will need:
- Wooden pegs
- Paint
- Paintbrushes
- Tulle netting
- Scissors
- Pipe cleaners
Step 1: Paint your pegs
Paint your wooden pegs in one base colour.
We used acrylic paints and picked some bright spring colours.
Step 2: Add some pretty patterns
If you like you can decorate your painted pegs by adding some decorative details.
We painted on some little dots. You might choose to paint zig zags, swirls or even stick on some shiny gems.
Step 3: Make the antennae
Cut little lengths of pipe cleaners to make the butterfly’s feelers.
Each butterfly needs two feelers, of the same coloured pipe cleaner.
Bend the tips of each to make a little swirled roll at the top.
Step 4: Make the delicate wings
Cut two large rectangles of tulle netting.
For each rectangle of tulle fold it with concertina folds.
Make two concertina folded wings.
Step 5: Add the wings to your butterfly
Open your peg and pop the wings in place, closing the peg so that they are gripped securely in place.
Step 6: Add the feelers.
Carefully open the peg again and pop the two pipe cleaner antennae in place.
Your butterfly is good to go!
Why not make some fluttery friends so you have a whole family?
