- Scissors
- Glue
Step 1: Print out the story cube templates
Print the story cube FREE printables onto card. Or you can print them onto paper and then stick them to a piece of card.
Let your child colour in some of the characters and places. Or you can print them onto coloured card.

Step 2: Cut out and assemble your story cubes
Cut out your story cube template. Fold along ALL the lines. Then spread some glue on each of the tabs. Glue the tabs in place to create a solid cube.
Repeat for the other 3 story cube printables. Once you have a set of four cubes you are all ready to play.
How to play with your story cubes
Your child starts by rolling all four story cubes. They then use the four pictures that they see to build a story. They can tell any story they like as long as they find a way to weave in the characters and items on their story cubes along the way.
Here the cubes have thrown up a toadstool house, a dragon, a wizard and a magic key. Already you can see how your child’s imagination will start working as they think of a story to tell.
What kind of stories will the story cubes create?
Every time your child rolls the cubes they will get different characters and objects to spark their imagination.
They give a great starting point for story planning and creating. You’ll find that they often lead to some funny, wacky and magical stories. And they’ll have great fun along the way.
