Whether it’s breakfast on Sunday, Saturday or midweek, kids just love their pancakes! Try these fluffy ones made from a few simple ingredients the next time your kids are crying out for some.

These pancakes not only taste good but they are also naturally gluten free. The only flour used here is oat flour and unlike a lot of other ‘gluten free’ flours that have gone through processing to remove the gluten, oat flour is naturally gluten free.

So you can enjoy these knowing that they’re gluten and additive free, as well as being great tasting!

Best sunday pancakes - gluten free pancakes - ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups (or 135 grams) gluten free oat flour
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons cane or caster sugar
  • 100 grams natural yogurt
  • 1 organic egg
  • 140 ml milk (just over ½ cup)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl combine the wet ingredients and whisk together. These are the milk, yogurt and egg.
  2. In another bowl combine the dry ingredients – the flour, sugar and baking powder – and stir together.
  3. Tip the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Take a large fry pan and set on a medium heat. Cover the surface with oil spray, or add a knob of butter.
  5. Spoon out the mixture onto the pan, 2 large spoonfuls at a time. Cook the pancakes for a few minutes on each side until golden.
  6. Remove from the pan when cooked through. Add the toppings of your choice, butter, berries, maple syrup or honey and enjoy!

Mix the dry and wet ingredients together and stir until just combined. Try not to overmix the batter to keep the pancakes fluffy.

Take a fry pan and set it on a medium heat. Add some oil spray or butter. When heated, spoon out the pancake mixture onto the pan, 1-2 large spoons at a time.

Naturally gluten free American pancakes that are perfect for Sunday mornings. These are the best homemade pancakes made from scratch with only a few ingredients, that make fluffy, soft American pancakes.

Notes

*Oat flour is naturally gluten-free as oats themselves are gluten-free, but there can be cross contamination when the flour is blended. So it’s best to use oat flour which is certified ‘gluten-free’ if you have gluten sensitivities or follow a gluten-free diet.
