How to make sushi sandwiches?
Making sushi sandwich rolls couldn’t be simpler. Start with a slice of bread and take off the crusts. Roll each slice out with a rolling pin until it’s flattened.
Add your chosen toppings on top, in a thin layer. Starting from the bottom, roll it up tightly. Seal the edges by dabbing with water and slice the roll crosswise into bitesize pieces. And that’s it, you’ve made your first sushi sandwich.

How to make the sandwich rolls (all fillings)

- Take a rolling pin and roll over each slice several times until it’s compacted. Roll from front to back. Rolling from side to side can make the bread break up.
- Add your chosen fillings onto each bread slice.
- Take the bottom of each slice. Roll it tightly towards the top.
- Wet your fingers and dab the edge of the bread to stick down the ends. Turn the roll over so that the end is facing down.
- Garnish the top with cream cheese and sesame seeds or your chosen toppings.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the long roll into thick slices (about 2cm or 1 inch wide). Your sandwich sushi bites are ready.
Ham and cheese filling
- Spread a thin layer of cream cheese (about ½ tablespoon) onto one slice. Add a slice of ham on top.
- Take your second rolled bread slice, spread with cream cheese and add a slice of cheese on top.
- Roll up your bread slice tightly (see above). If you need to you may need to trim off excess ham or cheese from the ends. Add your chosen toppings and slice into thick pieces.
Creamy avocado filling
- Take ½ a ripe avocado. Mash it together with 1 tablespoon cream cheese until a creamy avocado paste.
- Spread it over a compacted slice of bread and add a squeeze of lime juice.
- Add some very thinly sliced tomato and cucumber pieces too. Just make sure that they’re laid down in one layer so that the sandwich is not too full.
- Starting from the bottom of the bread, roll it up tightly and cut into slices, as above.
Smoked salmon filling
- Spread ½ tablespoon of cream cheese onto each compacted bread slice.
- Place a slice of smoked salmon on top.
- Add a squeeze of lemon juice and sprinkle with chopped coriander.
