baby's first foods - pork recipe for baby - green bean recipe for baby

Whether you are puree feeding or practising baby led weaning, this is a tasty and nutritious recipe for baby’s first foods. They can start eating pork from 6 months of age if parents wish them to, so the pork gives them their first protein. The green beans are packed with vitamins, particularly vitamins C and A, as well as minerals iron, calcium and magnesium. The dates add tastiness to the dish as well as being nutritious, helping with baby’s brain and bone development. Nutritious and delicious!

Ingredients

  • 15 green beans
  • 1 large date
  • 1 cube pork (about 3 x 3 cm)

Instructions

  1. Wash and chop the green beans and date. If you’re practising baby led weaning (or if you’re just letting baby explore eating whole pieces of food) leave the pieces long enough or large enough for baby to be able to grab onto later on.
  2. Place the green beans and date in a steamer, or in a saucepan of boiling water and cook for 10 minutes.
  3. In the meantime place the pork in a separate saucepan of boiling water and simmer for 2-3 minutes until cooked through.
  4. Baby led weaning: When everything is cooked, serve the green beans and date on a baby bowl or plate. Shred the pork cube into pieces and scatter them over the top. Serve.
  5. Puree: If you’re making puree then add all the ingredients to the blender with enough water to create the desired consistency. Blend and serve.
You can always do a bit of both, keeping some pieces on the plate for you baby to explore, and blending the rest to make sure she gets enough nutrition by feeding her puree.
