To make this craft you can either use store bought green pom poms or or we’ve included a quick and easy pom pom craft so that you can make them with a pom pom maker.
Pom pom making can be a very calming craft for kids to enjoy. You can use it for so many fun activities like our pom pom hatching chicks.
With this craft you’ll end up with 3 pom pom peas in a pod which are quick to make and which turn simple pom poms into cute characters for kids to play with.

- Green wool
- Green felt
- Pom pom maker
- Googly eyes
- Scissors
- Glue gun or tacky glue
Making your own three pom poms
Make three little green pom poms.
Using a pom pom maker is the easiest way to do this. You can buy them from craft shops and online and follow the instructions below.
Alternatively you can always cut two doughnut shapes from card to make pom poms the old fashioned way.
If you don’t have time to make the pom poms you can always buy green pom poms ready made and skip to Step 5.
Step 1: Wrap the wool around your pom pom maker
Fold out both arms at either side of the pom pom maker and wrap wool around them.
Keep wrapping until you have a nice thick layer of wool.
The more wool you add, the fluffier your pom pom will be.
Step 2: Cut the loops
Fold both arms back in and then cut through the middle loops of the wool with scissors.
Step 3: Secure your pom pom
Take a piece of wool and tie it round the middle of the pom pom maker.
Secure it tightly with a knot.
Step 4: Release your pom pom
Now unfold both arms again and take off the sides of the pom pom maker to release your finished pom pom.
Snip off any ends of wool with scissors and give your pom pom a little trim to make it nice and neat.
Step 5: Add some googly eyes
Glue on your googly eyes to instantly give your three little peas some character.
A glue gun works well to stick them to the pom poms easily. Otherwise you can use a strong tacky glue.
Step 6: Cut out the pea pod
Cut two crescent shapes out of green felt.
Make sure they are the right size to fit in your little pom pom ‘peas’.
Try to also make them identical in shape and size as they will stick to one another.
Step 7: Glue one pod
Spread the glue all along the rounded edge of one of your felt pods and also dab some glue at the two ends of the pod.
Step 8: Make your little pea pod
Now place the second felt pod shape on top of the glued one and press down the edges.
Now you have made your pea pod.
Step 9: Pop your peas in their pod
Now all you have to do is pop the pom pom peas snugly in their pea pod.
And with 3 little sets of eyes peering out at you they’ll look cute as ever!
