Minibeast Activities with Playdough

Have fun making different minibeasts out of just playdough and some small accessories. Here you can make a ladybird, a spider, an ant and a wiggly worm. You can move onto make other small creatures of your own using the same simple shapes too.
 
Great minibeast activities for little ones which is quick and easy too.

You will need:

  • Playdough
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Scissors
  • Googly eyes

Ladybird Playdough Activity

Make the body and head

Roll out an oval shape from red playdough. Then make a smaller oval out of black playdough for the ladybird’s head. Press the two together.

Now roll out little balls of black playdough for the spots. Gently press each one in place on the ladybird’s back.

Add the eyes and feelers

Cut two short lengths from a black pipe cleaner to make the feelers.

Press them into your play dough. To finish squash in two googly eyes.

Spider Playdough Activity

Roll out shapes for the body and head

To make a spider, roll out a large oval shape for the body and a small ball for the head out of black playdough.

Press the two together and add on some googly eyes to its face.

Add the legs

Cut lengths of black pipe cleaners and bend them to make the 8 spider legs.

Poke each leg into the playdough to attach it. How great does your finished spider look?

Ant Playdough Activity

Roll out 3 shapes for the body and head

Make a large oval shape and two small balls from brown or red play dough. Press them together to make the ant’s body.

Cut six small lengths of pipe cleaner to make legs and poke them into your play dough. Then add some googly eyes.

Wiggly Worm Playdough Activity

Make a wiggly worm

Roll out a thin strip of playdough. The tail should taper off at the end and you can curve your worm to make it look like it’s moving.

Using a playdough knife or a teaspoon make little imprints all along the length of the worm.

Earthworms don’t have eyes but if you’d like to add them in for fun, press in two googly eyes on either side of your worm’s face.

You can use the same method to make a caterpillar, a centipede or even a woodlouse.

Have lots of fun together making different playdough minibeasts.
