Juni learning Review

In our digital age, more and more parents see coding as a crucial skill for their kids to learn to keep up with employment needs of the future.

It’s used in a multitude of situations (like building software, a website, games, and more). And even back in 2015, programming jobs were already growing 12% faster than other jobs on the market on average. (1)

What’s more, 71% of US parents think that coding should be a part of elementary school education. (2)

At the moment though, coding classes for kids aren’t usually part of the main curriculum for younger students. So if you want your child to learn more about this topic, you’ll have to look for resources outside of school.

Fortunately, there are many more options now than a decade ago. You’ve got in-person tutoring centers, online classes, coding apps, and more.

To help you decide on the most effective choice for your needs, we’ll be reviewing a popular online coding class provider — Juni Learning. They offer 1:1 online tutoring to kids from 7-18 years old in a way that promotes their creativity and interest in the subject.

Over the years, demand for their services increased to a point where they now offer English and Maths as additional subjects too.

But because of the popularity of their Computer Science courses, these will be the focus of this article.

We give you an in-depth review of their lesson format, cost, customer opinions, and more. By the end of it, you should be able to decide if Juni Learning is right for your young learner!

What is Juni Learning?

Juni Learning is an online 1:1 tutoring program for children between 7-18 years old that covers three subjects — Computer Science, English, and Math.

Juni Learning English and Maths

Because of Juni Learning’s success as an online learning platform for Computer Science, they’ve expanded their services to offer English and Maths streams as well.

The curriculum for both is focused on going beyond the basics of what is taught at school for a deeper understanding of each subject. And this is always done in a way that promotes students’ self-discovery and joy for learning.

For example, the English pathway emphasizes helping kids grow their own voice and analytical skills through creative compositions and strategic reading. While the Maths path promotes a deeper understanding of mathematical thinking through fun, real-world projects.

This expansion in their service came as a natural progression as their community grew. But it was also fueled by the demand for higher-quality distance learning solutions as more kids were learning from home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the process, they’ve even raised $10.5 million in seed funding to fill this gap. And are set to continue growing their course offerings so that kids can continue to enjoy learning from home.

What is a Coding Class for Kids?

Coding classes for kids are where children learn to write computer programming languages. These languages are instructions that direct computers to perform tasks.

There are several options out there for learning to code — in-person vs. online, group vs. individual. Which is best for you comes down to your personal preferences and goals for your child’s coding progress.

Online classes have become really popular in recent years as they have the advantage of being more convenient (no travel time) and cost-effective. Certain subjects, like coding, also lend themselves to remote learning. As most coursework is done on a computer, so you don’t need to be in the same room as your tutor.

To meet this demand, Juni Learning offers 1:1 online coding classes to kids who want to explore computer programming in a fun and interesting way. Their tutors are also students from top US universities. So your child could be getting guidance from highly qualified instructors.

Who Founded Juni Learning?

Juni Learning is a female-founded online learning business started by Vivian Shen and Ruby Lee in 2017. It’s also currently backed by Arielle Zuckerberg (Mark Zuckerberg’s youngest sister).

They started the company with the mission to make computer science learning more exciting, available, and diverse because of their own personal experiences.

As young women in High School, they encountered several barriers to learning computer science. For Ruby, such classes had to be taken outside of her regular school curriculum. While for Vivian, she always wondered why her instructors and fellow students were always mostly male.

Since then, they’ve expanded their services to offer courses in English and Math to bring high-quality teaching to a wider base of subjects.

How Does Juni Learning Work?

Juni Learning offers 7-18-year-old children 1:1 online classes with tutors (students from top-rated US universities) in 3 subjects — Computer Science, English, and Maths.

Is Juni Learning Good?

Juni Learning is an excellent 1:1 online class platform for kids (7-18 years) interested in learning about Computer Science, English, and Math. But it’s particularly popular for its Computer Science stream. The founders started this platform with the aim of making this subject more accessible and fun for young learners to explore.

What’s unique about it is the 1:1 tutoring experience, with tutors coming from top-rated US universities. This makes it easy for kids to get the individual attention needed to progress quickly in subjects like computer science.

Based on reviews from other parents (and even kids themselves), the tutors also seem to be well trained. Many reports said that the tutors were great at engaging their children with fun projects and activities.

Several parents were also impressed with their kids’ progress over time, as seen through the weekly reports.

Many especially liked how their kids were able to stay committed to this program over the long term. Some mentioned that other programs just didn’t stick with their kids. So they were happy that the Juni Learning experience kept them motivated to learn.

The main issue for parents was the cost of the program. It can be more expensive than other online learning apps or group tutoring programs.

But they also said that it was worth the investment because of the 1:1 attention their children got from their tutors. In fact, many mentioned that their biggest regret is actually not starting this program earlier.

The best way to decide if it’s for you is by trying it yourself. And fortunately, Juni Learning offers a free 2-week trial so you can see if your child really takes to the tutors and subjects.

If you feel it’s not for you, simply cancel the subscription before the end of the trial period, and you won’t be charged.

We hope your child has an awesome experience with Juni Learning!
