Chilling: 2 hours or overnight
Ages: Toddlers to Teens
Difficulty: Easy peasy
Makes: 6 small Lego bars
How do you make Lego Rice Krispie Treats?
These Lego bars are made the same way as traditional Rice Krispie treats. Rice Krispie cereal is mixed in with melted marshmallows and butter, then laid out on a dish and transferred to the fridge to set.
Once the Rice Krispie treats have chilled, you can cut them into rectangular shapes and add on the colourful icing and M&Ms.
Adding the icing
For a tidy Lego colourful topping we recommend using icing, not frosting.
Icing starts out more liquid-like and quickly hardens when exposed to air. This makes it a better topping for these Rice Krispie treats.
To decorate them, you take your Rice Krispie blocks and dip them into the icing. Add the M&Ms and let them set.

Ingredients
Lego Rice Krispie Treats:
- 2 cups Rice Krispie cereal
- 1½ tablespoons butter (20 grams)
- 1 cup marshmallows (90 grams)
- 1 bag M&M chocolate candies (100 grams)
For the coloured icing:
- 1½ cups icing sugar (180 grams)
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 3 tubes of food colouring – we have used red, blue and green
Instructions
Rice Krispie treats:
- Measure out the Rice Krispies and set them aside in a large mixing bowl.
- Take a small oven dish (about 9 x 5 inch) and grease well or line with greaseproof paper.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan on a low heat.
- Add the marshmallows and stir constantly until melted and well combined with the butter.
- Pour your mixture over the Rice Krispies and stir together quickly before it cools.
- Straight away, spoon the mixture out onto a greased baking dish.
- Make a level layer about 2 cm deep and press it with the back of a spoon. If the mixture is too sticky and stringy to do this, then place a sheet of greaseproof parchment paper over the Rice Krispie mixture and push down with your hands until compacted. They won’t stick to the parchment paper and you will end up with nice thick bars.
- Place in the fridge to chill for 2 hours or overnight.
Coloured icing:
- Measure out the icing sugar.
- Spoon in 2 tablespoons of milk and mix. It should be a thick liquid. If you need to add up to 1 more tablespoon milk to get the right consistency.
- Split your mixture between three small bowls, one for each colour.
- Add a few drops of food colouring to each icing bowl and mix. See how the colour looks compared to the colour of your M&Ms and add some more colouring if necessary.
Decorating the Rice Krispie treats:
- Remove your Rice Krispie mixture from the fridge when it has set.
- Cut into rectangles with a sharp knife and remove from the dish.
- Pick them up and dip one side carefully into your coloured liquid icing.
- Turn it over and place it on a flat surface. If you need to top up the coloured icing by adding a little more onto the top with a spoon. You should end up with a thick layer of icing.
- Let any excess icing drip off and stick the M&Ms on. Allow the icing to harden and enjoy.
Fun Lego M&M Rice Krispie treats – our step by step guide:
Start with the Rice Krispies
Measure out your Rice Krispies and put them in a large mixing bowl.
Grease a small oven dish or line with greaseproof parchment paper.
Prepare the mixture
Melt your butter in a saucepan over low heat.
Add the marshmallows and stir continuously until completely melted.
Mix together
Pour the melted marshmallows and butter over the Rice Krispies and stir gently until everything is incorporated.
Spoon into an oven dish
Straight away, spoon your Rice Krispie mixture into an oiled baking pan and press down with the back of a spoon. If the mixture starts sticking to the spoon then we recommend placing a sheet of parchment paper over the mixture and pushing down on it with your hand to compact it.
Pop them in the fridge to chill for a few hours.
Make the icing
While your Lego Rice Krispie treats are firming up in the fridge, begin to make your icing.
Place the icing sugar in a bowl and add in 2 tablespoons of milk. Stir to make a thick liquid. If necessary add up to 1 more tablespoons milk to get the right consistency.
Colour the icing
Split your icing mixture evenly between three small bowls.
Add your preferred food colouring to each icing bowl and mix.
Create your Lego blocks
Once your Rice Krispie treats have firmed up, take them the out of the pan and cut them into rectangular shapes.
Dip in the coloured icing
Dip each ‘Lego block’ carefully into the coloured icing.
Let any icing drip off and set it down with the icing side up.
If necessary you can spoon a little extra icing over the top. You want it to be a thick layer.
Add the M&Ms
Put your M&M chocolates on the Rice Krispie treats in matching colours.
Set them an equal distance apart and in parallel lines to make them look like little Lego blocks!
Allow the icing to harden.
Enjoy your Lego M&M Rice Krispie treats!
