Summary:
Time: 10 minutes
Ages: Toddlers and Little kids
Difficulty: Easy peasy
You will need:
- Paper plates
- Pens
- Scissors
- Paint (we always prefer acrylics but any paint will do)
- Paint brushes
- Fork
- Googly eyes
- Card or foam sheet
- Bun cases
- Glue
Clown Fish
Clown fish: Step 1
Cut a paper plate in half.
Cut around the curve on the plate but at the end cut a tail shape, as shown in the photo above.
Clown fish: Step 2
Draw lines on your fish shape with a black pen.
These will be the white lines on your clown fish. You can make some lines straight and others wavy.
Clown fish: Step 3
Paint the fish with orange paint, leaving the space between the lines you drew white.
To finish off your clown fish cut a fin shape from one of the spare off-cuts of paper plate and paint it orange.
Glue it in place. Then you can stick on a googly eye.
You can use the same technique to make lots of different fish, with many colours and patterns.
Paper Plate Jelly Fish
Jellyfish: Step 1
Cut a paper plate in half.
Then cut a thin oval shape out of the plate, as shown in the photo above.
Jellyfish: Step 2
Paint your paper plate shape. We chose a bright pink colour and used acrylic paint to give it a thick covering.
Take some patterned paper bun cases. Cut around the edges of them to make 2 cm strips.
You will need about 5 or 6 bun case strips for the jellyfish tentacles.
Jellyfish: Step 3
Glue the bun case tentacles to the back of your jellyfish body.
Now all you need to do is add some googly eyes.
Paper Plate Puffer Fish
Puffer fish: Step 1
Start with a paper plate. Cut around the inner circle on the plate.
Puffer fish: Step 2
Take your round paper plate shape and cut zig zags all the way round the edges.
Puffer fish: Step 3
Dip a plastic fork into yellow paint and print lots of jaggy spiky shapes all over your circle.
Dip it into white paint to cover a small area at the bottom of your circle (the white belly of your puffer fish).
Puffer fish: Step 4
Cut out two fin shapes from the off cuts of your paper plate and paint them yellow. Cut a mouth shape from orange card or foam.
Puffer fish: Step 5
To complete your puffer fish, glue on the fins, mouth and googly eyes.
Paper Plate Crab
Crab: Step 1
Cut a paper plate in half. Cut the sides on a diagonal, as shown in the photo.
Crab: Step 2
Paint your paper plate with orange paint. Then cut out shapes for 6 crab legs and 2 crab pincers from orange card or a foam sheet.
Crab: Step 3
Glue the legs and pincers in place on the underside of your plate and add some googly eyes to finish.
You can put all your ocean animals on a large piece of blue background and decorate it like an ocean scene.
Or you could make other ocean animals from paper plates. It could be a turtle? Or a shark? Or even a seahorse?
